Words On Writing...

“All good writing is swimming under water and holding your breath.”

-F. Scott Fitzgerald

Words On Writing...

“It’s like driving a car at night. You never see further than your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.”

-E.L. Doctorow

Words On Writing...

“Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.”

-E.L. Doctorow

Words On Writing....

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There’s no way around these two things that I’m aware of, no shortcut.”

-Stephen King

Words On Writing...

“Planning to write is not writing. Outlining, researching, talking to people about what you’re doing, none of that is writing. Writing is writing.”

-E.L. Doctorow

Words On Writing...

“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.”
-Phillip Pullman

Words On Writing...

“Writers are not just people who sit down and write. They hazard themselves. Every time you compose a book your composition of yourself is at stake.”

-E.L. Doctorow

I’ve been a writer most of my life if not always as disciplined as I might have been. I started writing and publishing poetry in the 1970’s. During the 80’s and 90’s I worked with Andrew Martinez, an outstanding underwater photographer,  producing articles on marine and travel topics for a range of magazines. For the past fifteen years or so I’ve been writing novels, some of which can purchased as Kindle books on Amazon. While I would be gratified by commercial success in this area, my primary pleasure is in making the stories and discovering what happens to my characters.
